The Desert Theatre League invites all of its members, and anyone who would like to be a member, to attend the Annual General Membership Meeting, which will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Desert, 72425 Via Vail, Rancho Mirage, California 92270.
One of the items to be discussed at this year’s meeting is correcting the spelling of the word “Theater” in the corporate name, so that it correctly is spelled “Theatre”. Although the Desert Theatre League has always spelled "Theatre" with the "re" spelling, due to an error in the original filing of the Articles of Incorporation, the corporate name has always been misspelled. We are now attempting to correct this error, which requires an official name change with the California Secretary of State. To officially change the name of the Desert Theatre League (even just to correct a spelling error), we must hold a vote of the general membership to approve the change.
Additionally, the DTL Board of Directors has several vacancies, due to one member moving out of the area and two others who must come off the Board this year, due to requirements of the Bylaws. The general membership will vote on all candidates at the time of the Annual Meeting.
To all Producing and Individual Members of the Desert Theatre League,
We are proud to announce that we are once again able to grant two $500 Desert Theatre League Scholarships, which will be awarded based on ability and need and must be used for arts related expenses. The awards are open to individuals of any age involved in the Performing Arts, including actors, writers, musicians, dancers, set, costume and lighting designers, choreographers, directors, etc. The committee will decide the winner based on their ability and need, and the award must be used for arts related expenses.
All of our Producing and Individual Members are invited to nominate recipients. Each nominee must fill out the application and submit an essay describing their body of work, including information about themselves and how they would plan to use the award money. Each applicant must also submit a three to five minutes audition DVD, tape, CD, or portfolio, showing their original work. The application, essay and audition materials should be mailed to the Scholarship Committee, Desert Theatre League, P.O. Box 854, Palm Springs, CA 92263, by June 1, 2013.
