Adah Burgen, 17, has been dancing since she was three years old, participating in styles like ballet, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, tap and contemporary. As a nine-year-old, Adah began performing in Desert TheatreWorks’ junior production of “The Wizard of Oz,” as Glinda. She then found herself cast as a staple child actress. She had roles ranging from high-energy ensemble characters such as Kate in “Annie,” to strong-willed leads such as Libby Tucker in “I Ought to Be in Pictures.” Adah says, “I’ve learned the power of storytelling – how a single performance can move an audience, spark a conversation, or create a moment of magic. Adah’s academic excellence, sports participation, community service, and theater performances have resulted in acceptance at multiple colleges, allowing her to pursue the arts.
Charlotte Upp, 16, began singing for audiences when she was seven years old. “From the moment I stepped onto the stage, I knew I found something special.” By the time she was eleven, she discovered her love for musical theatre. Charlotte has performed in multiple junior productions such as “Into the Woods” at Desert Theatricals as well as many of their full mainstage productions. Those include “Oliver,” Fiddler on the Roof,” “Oklahoma,” and many more. She also has been taking tap dance lessons and has fallen in love with this art form as well. After high school, Charlotte will continue developing her craft, growing as an artist. She is grateful for all that theater has taught her – “resilience, teamwork and a strong work ethic.”
The Desert Star Awards Ceremony were held on October 20, 2024 at Sun City Palm Desert.
