JUDGING

Dear Producing Members,

I hope you all are doing well and looking forward to the 2022 to 2023 Season.  I have attached a copy of the DTL's Producing Member's Ballot Instructions for the 2022 to 2023 Season (WORD format) and also listed it in the Judging section on DTL's website (DesertTheatreLeague.org).  If you have trouble opening the document, I can send it to you in a PDF format.

Please send me a copy of your upcoming season so that I have it for judging scheduling and it can also be listed on the DTL Calendar Section of our website.

Changes for this season include:

The Ballots for all categories have been revised.  I will be sending the Producing Members a separate email discussing the changes to the Ballot for the 2022 to 2023 season.

The main ballot change is that for the Technical Nominations, "Props and Special Effects" have been split into two separate categories.  Now there are seven Technical Nomination categories.  Please use the new ballots for this season.  If you use an older ballot that does not have "Props" and "Special Effects" as separate categories, any individual nominated will be disqualified.

The DTL Board has also decided that for the 2022 to 2023 season Middle School productions will no longer be judged.  There were no Middle School productions during the past season.  Further, Middle School productions have not generally been competitive with High School productions.  With only High Schools being eligible to be judged, the Board has increased the age from 13 years to 14 years for the following rule:

Excluding High School productions, if half or more of the cast consists of individuals 14 years old or younger, the production will not be judged.

Also, please review the instruction concerning the Professional Designation.  Most importantly, a person should be considered a professional if they have or ever been a member in good standing of any Theatrical Union, including, but not limited to Actors Equity, Directors Equity, Stage Manager's Equity, SAG, AFTRA, AGVA, ASCAP, Electricians Union, Sound and Set Construction Unions, etc. Being presently retired does not erase a prior membership in a Theatrical Union.

The return address for the ballots will remain as follows:

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at "DTL92263@aol.com"

The Desert Star Awards gala is scheduled for October 16, 2022.  The nominations for Desert Star Awards will be posted on DTL’s website on August 1, 2022. Tickets for the awards show will go on sale August 1st.
